Mud Therapy (Prithvi chikitsa)

Mud is one of five elements of nature having immense impact on the body in health as well as in disease. Mud has a remarkable effect to refresh, invigorate and vitalize the human body. Mud procured for treatment purpose is free from pollution and contamination and is cleaned and sifted before use. Mud Therapy includes Mud bath, Mud pack, etc.
Mud Pack : This mode of treatment is adopted along with a proper scheme of dietary and other natural therapies. As the mud retains moisture for a long time, the most important benefit of the mudpacks is the retention of moisture and coolness for long periods.
Mud Bath : Mud or clay bath is applied in the same way as packs, but to cover the entire body. In this therapy, mud or clay is made into a smooth paste, after mixing with hot water. This paste is spread on a sheet, which is wrapped around the body. A blanket is wrapped over this. The treatment is followed with a cleansing warm water bath and a cold shower. The mud bath is found to tone up the skin by increasing the circulation and energizing the superficial tissues.
Mud treatments are used to treat arthritis, spondylosis, psoriatic arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis and muscular rigidity. People suffering from psoriasis, eczema and acne are treated with mineral-enriched mud.
