Panchakarma

Panchakarma

Pancha in Sanskrit stands for "Five" and Karmas are the therapeutic measures. Therefore Panchakarma means five types of therapeutic measures, which are undertaken for the purification of the body.

Ayurveda considers that the body needs to be purified, before it can be treated for youthfulness, health and vigor etc. The Panchakarma therapy of Ayurveda can be considered as a de-toxification treatment for the body – an end in itself rather than a prelude to other therapeutic measures.

The therapy includes different types of Snehana (herbal massages and external oil treatments), Swedana (steam fomentations), Virechana (purgation through herbs, medicated enemas), Vamana (emesis through herbs) and Nasya (nasal administration of oils).

Panchakarma is a very exacting Ayurveda treatment, which requires proper guidance from a highly trained and skilled Ayurveda practitioner.
